Fredericksburg

Fredericksburg is centrally located between Washington, DC and Richmond, just south of the Rappahannock Falls. Many of the residents here commute up to DC and the areas immediately surrounding it. To accommodate the many commuters from Fredericksburg the Virginia Railway Express (VRE), Amtrak, Interstate 95 and dozens of commuter vans, carpools and buses are available to take commuters to their places of employment.

Fredericksburg has a long and varied history, beginning with the Native Americans who prized the area for its natural resources. The early European settlers appreciated the area too and it soon became an important area for the early colonists. Because of its strategic location, it became official inland port in the early 1700s. It was also a vital area during the Revolutionary and Civil Wars; and many battles were fought here.

Today Fredericksburg’s history is well-preserved in the many parks, museums and tours available to residents and visitors. In the book entitled, “Life in America’s Small Cities,” Fredericksburg is ranked as the third best town in which to live, out of two-hundred nineteen small cities across America.

Spend the day walking through history in Downtown Fredericksburg where you’ll find over 350 - 18th and 19th century buildings and you will find over 100 shops, boutiques, restaurants and cafés within the 40-block area. Be sure to visit the four-block area known as “Antique Row.” Or experience the town in the comfort of a Fredericksburg Trolley or the Fredericksburg Olde Towne Carriage Tour and learn some of the history of the area and residents.

Fredericksburg has also become a mecca for shoppers. Central Park is the largest shopping center on the east coast, with over 200 stores. Here you will find practically any retailer or restaurant you desire. Nearby you will find other retailers, shopping areas and eateries such as Celebrate Virginia South, Spotsylvania Towne Centre and Eagle Village.

Whatever your interest or preference, you can find it in Fredericksburg. It’s a perfect place for that quaint, small-town feel that’s not too far from the city.
